Machu Picchu Wallpaper

Machu Picchu was built in the traditional Inca manner with polished dry stone walls. Its three primary structures are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows. Most of the outlying buildings have been reconstructed to give tourists an advanced idea of what they were like originally. By 1976, thirty percent had been restored, and restoration continues.

Most archaeologists believe that it was built as a property for the Inca Emperor Pachacuti. Often mistakenly referred to as the failure metropolis of the Incas, it is the most familiar icon of the Inca civilization. The Incas built the estate around 1450, but abandoned it a century later during the Spanish conquest. Although it was appreciated locally, it was not known to the Spanish during colonial times and it remained unknown to the outside universe until the American historian Hiram Bingham brought it to international attention in 1911.
